| This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) Behavioral Health Service Line encompasses four Community Based Outpatient Clinics and the main campus which spans three states (MS, AL, and FL) across 300 miles. The Outpatient Mental Health Clinic is customer service oriented, meeting a variety of emotional, psychological, behavioral, interpersonal, and social needs of patients. The Psychologist-Program Manager will assist in overseeing a multispecialty behavioral health clinic of over 40 FTE's, consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members who are part of our level IC organization. The incumbent will exercise oversight of clinic services including general mental health, PCMHI, neuropsychology, pain management, tale-mental health, PTSD, MST and Substance use. Clinical Responsibilities May have direct responsibility for all aspects of behavioral health services in the program, including those conducted by trainees and staff. Consult with and serves as a resource for other professional staff concerning the need for and development of behavioral health services. Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and uses the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care. Performs psychotherapy and psychological evaluations for all areas of the Health Care System on a consult basis, including but not limited to psychiatry, neurology, primary care, acute care, pulmonology (including transplant evaluations),and the nursing home care unit. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including: individual therapy, marital/family therapy, group therapy, and substance abuse treatment. Academic/Teaching/Training Responsibilities May hold faculty or adjunct appointment at affiliated university. Develops and facilitates management of in-service training and career development programs for program staff members, in coordination with similarly targeted efforts conducted by Medical Center wide programs, and professional discipline chairs. As needed, provides education and training to other Medical Center work units and staff. For example: Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and Team Building Exercises for individual services within the Healthcare System. May serve as faculty for local or network wide education and training. Where appropriate, may serve as principal investigator or co-investigator in program based research projects and/or serve on an Institutional Review Board (IRS). Provides clinical consultation to various disciplines and levels of training. Involved in professional training programs, such as practica, internships and residency programs. Involved in the training of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, psychology interns, social work interns, and nursing students. Provides leadership, guidance and consultation on staff education and development. Orients, teaches, and serves as a consultant to other Healthcare System staff, Doctoral Psychology Interns and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment of their patients. Management Support Responsibilities Serve as high level liaison with: local, state and national officials; community based special interest groups; community based agencies and other health care providers; and representatives of affiliate institutions of higher learning (e.g., professional schools of medicine, nursing, psychology, social work, etc.). Prepares for the Healthcare System Director's signature after appropriate intermediate review, Congressional and other controlled correspondence including responses to Office of Investigative General, General Accountability Office, Congressional Budget Office, and other recommendations relevant to Psychology Service. Represents the Behavioral Health Service at appropriate local, regional, and/or national meetings and educational conferences. As appropriate, when called upon by requests from the media, participates in preparation for and conduct of media-related events/interviews. The incumbent may also be asked to provide expert advice, consultation and testimony to local, state and federal officials as requested. Serves, as directed or required, on any of several Healthcare System, district, regional, and national task groups and committees. Adheres to fire, safety, and security requirements. Possess professional knowledge of: (a) psychological assessment; (b) a broad range of psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, couple, family, and group intervention; (c) the health-care delivery system; (d) VA regulations; (e) community support systems and resources; (f) must have the ability to communicate effectively, make sound decisions, and anticipate developments.
