The Psychologist selected will provide a wide range of psychological services within the San Juan Behavioral Health Clinic (SJ BHC). The selectee will be administratively assigned to the Psychiatry Service to provide treatment to Veterans with mental and/or behavioral disorders at SJ BHC. The selectee will perform his/her clinical responsibilities with considerable independence but may seek consultation and/or peer supervision as needed. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to: Performs professional work describing human behavior, determining the reasons for that behavior, and predicting and/or modifying the behavior. He/she performs psychological assessment, evaluation, and treatment of patients with general mental health conditions including Depression, Schizophrenia, and others such as PTSD. Provides evidenced based psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions. Through testing and clinical interviews and observation, assesses behavior, emotions, personality, and intelligence. Assists in differential diagnosis of functional and organic disorders. Administers, scores, and evaluates psychological diagnostic tests. Administers a wide variety tests. Uses a variety of intelligence and personality assessment measures. Serves as an authoritative source of information in the use and interpretation of tests to differentiate between functional and organic damage to the patient. Plans and conducts group, family, couples, and individual psychotherapy utilizing therapeutic models and techniques for the mental health population including evidenced based therapy. Plans effective treatment interventions. Based on data gathered during the assessment creates goals and objectives for appropriate clinical treatment for individual patients. Conceptualizes develops and discusses the plan within the interdisciplinary BHIP for a full range of psychological services for the general BHC. Timely documentation of treatment plan in CPRS MHS. Provides consultation to other behavioral health staff professionals and peers in an attempt to promote and preserve therapeutic environment for individual patients. Provides consultation regarding appropriate staff responses toward patient or specific environmental factors that will stimulate more self-reliance, reduce anxiety, or achieve more socially adaptable behavior patterns. Evaluates and adjusts treatment as necessary. Continually monitors patient's progress. Determines when reassessment is appropriate and adjusts treatment plan accordingly. Maintains accuracy in therapeutic techniques by reviewing and/or participating in outcome research. Evaluates and exercises judgment in the adjustment of treatment plan goals in collaboration with the patient and the treating team. Responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Tour of duty typically includes M-F, 7:30am to 4pm depending on patient care and the needs of the service.
