THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS MD ANDERSON CANCER CENTER Department of Behavioral Science in the Division of Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences is accepting applications for an open rank, term tenure track position in the following two areas:
Behavioral and pharmacological treatment of obesity, diet and physical activity, psychological aspects of treatment, weight management compliance, caloric restriction and intermittent fasting, endocrine and metabolic mechanisms associated with obesity and other related areas of energy balance.
Development and application of new and emerging digital health technologies (e.g., mobile, wireless and sensor technology, online social networks, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data) for behavioral assessment and intervention in cancer prevention and survivorship.
Target populations may include the general population, those with chronic medical comorbidities, minority and underserved, as well the cancer patient populations.
The successful candidate will participate actively in the Department of Behavioral Science’s robust research portfolio (i.e., nicotine psychopharmacology, smoking cessation, genetics of nicotine dependence, youth tobacco use prevention, affective neuroscience, psychosocial oncology, energy balance, biopsychosocial influences on cancer outcomes, adherence to complex regimens, caregiver and dyadic interventions, mind-body medicine, mobile and sensor applications for assessment and intervention, genetic and genomic testing, skin cancer prevention and/or another area related to cancer prevention and survivorship) and will also participate as a member in MD Anderson’s Center for Energy Balance in Cancer Prevention and Survivorship (www.mdanderson.org/energybalance), a transdisciplinary center that facilitates and conducts state-of-the-science research to understand the relationships between physical activity, nutrition, obesity and cancer, and uses this knowledge to optimize interventions to decrease cancer risk and improve cancer outcomes.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree. For appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, highest preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral training and a strong research agenda, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or funding from grants and fellowships. For appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, highest preference will be given to candidates with an established research program, demonstration of a sustained research trajectory and a record of extramurally funded research.
